A good thing...

My companions for the day... from the top...Brandon, Freckles, the ever serious, Ezry and last but not least...Space!
Nothing earth shaking happening today...I am shipping my most recent dragon off. This was a commission work. I hope the clients don't read my blog(if they do, my disclaimer is "I'm only human!") but it wasn't an easy sculpt. I had a front view photo to work off of, for a three dimensional sculpture. I wasn't even sure I could get close to the picture, let alone capture the creature's essence! The client asked for photos of my progress. I took them but couldn't send them. I wanted to finish it first and see if I'd done it! And then there's the whole thing about copying a photo...it's not from my imagination and that makes it a lot less enjoyable!
I sent them finished photos and the reply I got back was "You nailed it!" Gratifying, but I was going to tell them I wouldn't do any more custom work from photos. When an older friend of mine who's dealt with galleries etc. for years said, this is one of the down falls of selling your art. "You can limit yourself, or...do things out of your comfort zone, and in doing so... take the chance of growing as an artist and learning new things!".................Damn..............I hate that when I think some one's right and changes my mind!!!! So needless to say I took the next commission. Now my daughter, whom I work with every day, can listen to me cuss A BLUE STEAK as I sculpt the next DRAGON! Right now, with this economy the way it is...taking any job, is A GOOD THING!

You do such awesome work! I'm glad you have another job, and sorry for your daughter. . .
I can't believe you rode a bull! I would be scared sh*tless!!!
My youngest daughter is fearless like that too-which is awesome and terrifying all at once!

I had to wait until my mother went on vacation, then I called her and said, "Guess what I did today." It didn't go over well! Doesn't matter how old they are...you never stop worrying. I have a barber shop with my daughter, when it's slow I sculpt in the back room. So I guess it's a Barber Shop/Studio!

and a perfect set of companions they are!

I think it's impressive that you are willing to grow as an artist - to challenge yourself ... be a blue streak if you have to (by now, I'm sure she's use to it, right). :)
